Now here is some good news! It should NEVER have been put in their constitution in the first place. Other States are trying to correct this travesty also.

On January 12, 2012 the Portland City Council voted unanimously for the historic resolution purposed by Mayor Sam Adams declaring the city's support for amending the US Constitution making clear that money is not speech and that corporations are not people.
The vote was 3-0 with Commissioners Nick Fish and Dan Saltzman absent. Commission Fish had indicated that he would have voted in favor had he been there.
“The US Supreme Court continued its tradition of giving our basic constitutional human rights to corporations in their Citizens United decision. This city council vote has now affirmed their belief that flesh and blood people should have human rights and that corporations are not human. That is as it should be.” stated David Delk, founder of Move to Amend Portland.
Members of the Alliance for Democracy and Move to Amend Portland worked with Occupy Portland and Common Cause Oregon in crafting the resolution's final language and members of each organization offered testimony prior to the historic vote today.
Portland joins the cities of New York City, Los Angeles, Duluth MN and others in passing resolutions supporting amendment of the Constitution. The cities of Madison WI, Boulder Co, and Missoula MT as well as Dane County, WI have all passed ballot measures with strong majorities declaring that corporations are not people and the money is not speech. The resolution calls on the city attorney to study how Portland's city council can also refer a measure to Portland vote.
“The city today confirmed that allowing corporations to have constitutional rights is not in the interest of the American people. And that the constitution needs to be amended and should be amended to protect the American people from the excesses of corporations,” said David Delk, founder of Move to Amend Portland. “We are seeing the start of an American people's movement. It is the start of our American Democracy Movement.”
On January 20, 2012, the Friday before the 2nd anniversary of the Citizens United Supreme Court decision , Move To Amend, Alliance for Democracy and others will hold a rally as part of a national day of action called Occupy the Courts. Over 100 cities will have rallies or other activities. Our rally joins together all people in a family friendly gathering to demand an end to corporate rule via Supreme Court decisions and for amending the constitution to restore democracy of We the People.
