“A BRILLIANT engineer with severe depression took his life on the day of his eviction over a council tax debt of £1,500, plus costs of £70,000.

Peter Williams, 63, stood in front of a train in February after he had been pursued relentlessly by lawyers over the debt for 16 years.

The council refused to drop the case despite efforts by Mr Williams’s MP, doctor and friends to stop it because of his poor mental health.

Mr Williams, of Langford, Bedford, died at Biggleswade months before his Vortex device was in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s most energy efficient hand dryer.

His suicide note said he could not face losing his home, stating: “I have had enough and cannot stand any more of the mental turmoil.”

He implored his friends to make “most public” his case “against the council and the system”. An inquest was opened and adjourned on Tuesday. Mental health barrister Laura Davidson agreed to represent his family without charge.

No one from Central Bedfordshire District Council attended……!

His GP wrote, telling the council his depression had put him in the “severe category”, but Grant Thornton instructed solicitors to evict him….”!

GRANT THORNTON, again! What a greedy, wicked firm this appears to be! I believe that this is the same revolting, predatory firm that helped to controversially foreclose on Brantwood School for Girls in Sheffield, in cahoots with the Rotten Bank of Scotland! I believe that this wonderful school was unfortunate enough to have on its board of governors - an ex Grant Thornton accountant, a data miner turned 'consultant' who, I believe, gets paid handsomely by Grant Thornton to meticulously go over firms' accounts but could not, I believe, help much to 'save' his daughters' school - !!?? I believe, allegedly, etc! http://forums.ukcolumn.org/showthread.php?tid=1406
